Porcelain Tile is most commonly known to be used as an interior finish. However, it is also used as an exterior finish. For this application it is specifically designed to be outside, it is thicker and has a slip resistant finish.
How is is Installed?
This style of deck is not installed like a traditional deck as it is not in the format of a board. For rooftop applications we use a pedestal system that is adjustable to the slope of the roof…that’s right, flat roofs are not actually flat. Another option is using an aluminum track system. Which option depends on the application and availability of elevation.
Porcelain tile can also be installed over traditional framing with some of the same techniques and products as a rooftop deck. Add some in deck lighting and you’ll have the most amazing deck in the neighborhood…giving you the WOW Factor!

DekTek Tile - A Concrete Tile!
While DekTek is not a porcelain tile we put this in the same category as it is a tile. This is no ordinary tile…it is manufactured to withstand the exterior conditions and look nice. It has it’s own unique look and is not for everyone, but it has it’s place in our books.
It is a 1″ thick tile which is unique in that it can seamlessly be used with any standard deck board. You can create inlays and patterns in a standard deck without having to make things match that are different thicknesses.
While it also is not a porcelain tile, it is even more closely related. Tanzite is a manufactured stone tile or deck plank. It is a man made product of stone which is made through a process using heat and pressure.
The product does not scratch, stain or fade and the slip resistance is excellent due to it being made of stone.
