A Kanata Deck Re-Surfacing Project

This deck project was a re-surface, meaning we kept the existing framing. In the process the deck stairs were replaces with new framing as well as framing for the deck skirting.
Western red cedar is a popular deck choice due to it’s natural beauty, longevity and who can resist the smell of fresh cedar!
Not only is it a great material it is also sourced in Canada!
We finished this cedar deck in a penetrating oil by Cutek Extreme. You can see the difference in the pictures of it unfinished to oiled…amazing!
Unlike water based stains, oil treatments will no flake and is easy to maintain.
In our opinion it is a must for cedar decks and we do include it as an option for all cedar deck quotes.
For the railing on this project, due to the shape being a partial octagon we decided to to a split post. This allowed us to nor have to cut the rails on an angle. It is a unique detail to this deck.
The railing posts were skirted with some 1×1 cedar. This adds a finished touch to the post
The deck skirting was a cedar fence board installed vertically and a 1×4 trim on the bottom and a 2×4 trim on the top to wrap the deck boards.
These deck design details are what takes the time…but it’s also what brings the finish to the next level
